Oh Se-jin, President of the Korea Poultry Association, Elected 14th Chair of the Livestock-Related Organizations Council

[Korea Agricultural Technology Newspaper = Reporter Lee Hyun-woo] Oh Se-jin, president of the Korea Poultry Association, has been elected as the 14th chair of the Livestock-Related Organizations Council (hereinafter the Council). On May 29, the Council held its second representatives’ meeting for 2026 in the large conference room in the basement of the First Livestock Hall in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and elected a new chair and other executives.

The meeting was attended by representatives and others from 26 member organizations affiliated with the Council. Major agenda items included △ a report on the activities of the 13th Council leadership △ a report on audit results △ approval of the 13th term’s business performance and settlement of accounts △ election of the chair and executives, and in-depth discussions were held.

In the election for the 14th Council chair, contested by Oh Se-jin, president of the Korea Poultry Association, and Lee Ki-hong, president of the Korea Pork Producers Association, Oh Se-jin won the honor of being elected. In addition, Lee Deok-seon, president of the Eco-Friendly Livestock Association, was elected as auditor to help lead the Council. The remaining one auditor and five vice chairs, who have not yet been selected, are to be nominated later by newly elected Chair Oh Se-jin and then formally elected at the next representatives’ meeting.

Under the bylaws, the official term of the 14th executive leadership runs from June 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027. However, because the current term does not match the Council’s fiscal year, causing administrative inefficiency, the representatives’ meeting on this day reached a principle agreement on a plan to align them by shortening the term. Specific details such as the extent of the reduction and procedures for revising the bylaws are expected to be formally handled at a future representatives’ meeting. 

In his acceptance remarks, newly elected Chair Oh Se-jin clearly presented the future direction for operating the Council. Oh stated, “For the sustainable development of Korea’s livestock industry and the enhancement of its standing, continuity in livestock policy is more important than anything else,” and emphasized, “We must break away from the old practice in which policies previously pursued return to square one whenever the chair changes.” He added, “Based on close and continuous communication with the government, I will firmly build an unwavering institutional foundation and policy legacy.”

In particular, Oh made it clear that he would not become absorbed in the interests of individual livestock organizations or in resolving their complaints. He said, “The most urgent task currently facing our livestock industry is to spread a positive perception of the livestock sector as a whole among the public and consumers,” adding, “Rather than representing the private interests of specific groups, I will devote all my capabilities to the development of Korea’s livestock industry as a whole and the realization of public value.”
